School Wi-Fi lives or dies on density, not coverage — a hall full of devices connecting at once, across multiple buildings, with safeguarding and tight budgets on top. Reliable coverage starts with the cabling and PoE behind the access points, positioned from a proper wireless survey. We design and install enterprise Wi-Fi and structured cabling for schools, colleges and universities across the North West — DBS-checked, and installed around term time.
Why school Wi-Fi is different
Consumer or small-office kit falls over in a school for reasons that have nothing to do with signal strength. Four things make education networks their own discipline:
- Density, not coverage. The challenge isn't reaching a far corner — it's hundreds of devices hitting the network in the same room or hall at the same moment. That needs enterprise access points designed for high client counts, not more range.
- A spread-out estate. Multiple buildings, sports halls, temporary classrooms and outdoor space — often including older buildings with thick walls that block signal. Coverage has to be planned, not hoped for.
- Safeguarding and security. Student, staff and guest traffic must be separated, and the network has to work cleanly with content filtering and monitoring. It's a duty, not a nice-to-have.
- Everything depends on it. Online learning, cashless catering, registration, the MIS, interactive whiteboards and streaming all ride the same network. When it drops, the school stops.
What good education Wi-Fi delivers
Done properly, the network quietly underpins the whole school day:
- 1:1 device and BYOD schemes — tablets and laptops that connect reliably in every teaching space.
- Exam halls under load — hundreds of simultaneous connections for online assessment without the network buckling.
- Interactive teaching & streaming — whiteboards, video and cloud apps in every classroom.
- Cashless catering & registration — the everyday systems that can't afford to drop out at 12 o'clock.
- Segregated staff, student & guest access — separate, secure networks on the same infrastructure.
- Outdoor & sports-hall coverage — reliable connectivity beyond the main teaching block.
- Modern Wi-Fi 6 standards — designed for exactly the high-density environments schools create.
It starts with the cabling, not the access points
Wi-Fi is only ever as good as what's behind it. Every access point needs a structured cabling run and Power over Ethernet back to the comms room — so the real foundation of good school Wi-Fi is the structured cabling and the survey that decides where every AP goes. Guessing AP positions is why so many school networks have dead spots and dropouts. A proper wireless survey, correct cabling and the right enterprise Wi-Fi hardware are what turn "there's Wi-Fi" into "the Wi-Fi just works."
Safeguarding, filtering and security
A school network carries a safeguarding responsibility that an office one doesn't. We build in the segregation that keeps student, staff and guest traffic apart, and design the network to sit cleanly alongside your content filtering and monitoring rather than fighting it. And because our engineers are on site around children, they're DBS-checked — as standard, not on request.
Installed around the school, not through it
Cabling and access-point work is disruptive if it lands in the middle of teaching. We plan installations around the school calendar — the bulk of the work in holidays and half-terms, the rest phased into quieter windows — so the network is ready when the students come back, not being drilled in while they're sitting exams.
How the project works
- Free site survey. We walk the site, run a wireless survey, and map the buildings, device numbers and dead spots — plus any existing cabling worth keeping.
- Network design. We design the cabling, PoE and access-point layout for real-world density, with the segregation and filtering hooks your safeguarding needs.
- Fixed-price quotation. A detailed, fixed price with the full test pack and as-built drawings at handover — straightforward for budget approval.
- Term-aware, DBS-checked install. Scheduled around the school calendar, by checked engineers, with every link tested, labelled and certified.

Frequently asked questions
A few of the questions we're asked most. For more, see our full FAQ library.
Why does our Wi-Fi slow down when everyone connects?
That's a density problem, not a coverage one. Consumer or small-office access points can't handle hundreds of devices connecting at once, so they slow or drop under load — most obviously in halls and busy classrooms. The fix is enterprise access points designed for high client counts, correctly positioned from a wireless survey and fed by proper cabling.
Do you work around term time?
Yes. We plan the bulk of the work into holidays and half-terms and phase the rest into quieter windows, so the network is ready for the students rather than being installed around them. Our engineers are also DBS-checked for working on site.
Can you cover the whole site, including outdoors and sports halls?
Yes. A wireless survey maps every space that needs coverage — teaching blocks, halls, temporary classrooms and outdoor areas — and the design places access points and cabling to suit, including older buildings where signal is harder to get through.
How do you handle safeguarding and content filtering?
We build the network so student, staff and guest traffic are separated, and design it to work alongside your content filtering and monitoring rather than against it. Engineers on site are DBS-checked as standard.
Is it just the Wi-Fi, or the cabling too?
Both — and they go together. Every access point needs a structured cabling run and Power over Ethernet behind it, so we design and install the cabling backbone and the wireless as one project rather than bolting Wi-Fi onto whatever's already there.
Do you offer a free site survey?
Yes. We provide free site surveys across the North West and follow up with a detailed, fixed-price quotation.
