Common questions

Structured cabling, answered.

The questions IT managers, facilities teams and M&E contractors ask us most. Need something specific? Talk to an engineer.

What is structured cabling?
Structured cabling is a standardised, organised approach to a building's network infrastructure — a single, documented system of copper and fibre cabling, patch panels, cabinets and outlets rather than a tangle of one-off runs. Because it's labelled, tested and built to recognised standards, it's far easier to maintain, fault-find and expand as your business grows.
What's the difference between Cat6 and Cat6A cabling?
Both support Gigabit speeds, but Cat6A is built for sustained 10 Gigabit Ethernet over the full 100-metre run and handles interference better, which makes it the sensible choice for new commercial installs and anywhere you want headroom for future bandwidth. Cat6 is still a solid, cost-effective option for shorter runs and lighter requirements. We'll recommend the right grade for your site rather than over-spec the whole job.
Do your installations come with test results and certification?
Yes. Every copper run is certified with a Fluke DSX test pack and fibre is verified with OTDR testing, so you get documented proof that the installation meets standard. You'll also receive full labelling schedules and as-built drawings at handover — so the network is genuinely maintainable, not a guessing game for whoever supports it next.
Do you offer manufacturer-backed warranties?
We install to manufacturer-approved standards using accredited components, which means installations can carry an extended system warranty — typically 25 years — covering both the components and the performance of the channel. We'll confirm the exact warranty available for your chosen system as part of the design.
Do you work across the whole site, including out of hours?
We do. Most of our commercial work is programme-led around live environments, so we plan installs and changeovers to minimise disruption — including evenings, weekends and phased works on occupied or operational sites. The aim is a clean changeover to go-live with as little impact on your people as possible.
Are you a North West company, or do you work UK-wide?
Both. We're based in Burnley, Lancashire and do a lot of work across the North West, but our accredited engineers deliver structured cabling and network infrastructure nationwide — from single-outlet additions through to full multi-building commercial fit-outs. Wherever the site is, the standard of install and documentation is the same.
Can you install fibre as well as copper?
Yes — copper and fibre are both core to what we do. We design and install fibre backbones between buildings, floors and comms rooms, with proper splicing and OTDR certification for resilient, high-bandwidth links, then tie it into the structured copper cabling that serves your desks, APs and devices. It's all delivered under one roof, so there's no finger-pointing between trades.
