Restricted areas
Work in controlled areas is arranged in advance, limited to agreed windows and managed so it never interferes with operations.
Lancashire is one of the UK's major aerospace regions, and its sites are among the most demanding places to install a network: multiple buildings, restricted areas, production that can't stop and documentation that has to stand up to scrutiny. That's the work we do.
Resilience, security and traceability. Aerospace and defence sites typically span several buildings linked by a fibre backbone, include areas where access is tightly controlled, and run production that can't be interrupted for an install.
Every change needs to be planned around access windows and documented properly, so the next engineer — or an auditor — can see exactly what was installed, where and how it was tested.
The cabling itself is familiar. What makes aerospace work demanding is everything around it.
Work in controlled areas is arranged in advance, limited to agreed windows and managed so it never interferes with operations.
Sites grow building by building, so each addition has to join the existing backbone rather than become a separate system.
Test results, labelling schedules and as-built drawings that make the network traceable for years.
We look after a large aerospace manufacturer in the North West with several buildings on one site. It runs on a resilient single-mode fibre backbone linking the buildings to central equipment rooms, with Cat6A structured cabling serving several hundred outlets inside each building.
Access to parts of the site is tightly controlled, so work is planned in advance around restricted areas and live operations. The relationship is ongoing: we handle retrofit work in existing buildings and new-build cabling as the site expands, integrating each new building into the same backbone. Read more in our multi-building cabling guide. Client anonymised at their request.
One contractor for the backbone, the cabling inside each building and the systems that run on it.
| Service | On an aerospace site |
|---|---|
| Fibre backbones | Single-mode links between buildings and equipment rooms, spliced and OTDR certified |
| Structured cabling | Cat6A to offices, production areas and equipment, Fluke DSX certified |
| Enterprise Wi-Fi | Surveyed coverage for production areas, hangars and offices |
| Point-to-point links | Connections to outbuildings where trenching isn't practical |
| CCTV | Network-integrated cameras for perimeters and controlled areas |
| Public address | Zoned paging across production and outdoor areas |
Tell us about the site and the constraints, and we'll plan the work around them.
Yes. We work within the site's access arrangements — pre-booked windows, escorts where required and agreed routes — so work in controlled areas is planned and never disrupts operations. Tell us your site's requirements at the outset and we'll build them into the programme.
Yes. New buildings are designed into the existing backbone, with matching labelling and documentation, so the site grows as one network rather than a collection of separate ones.
Every copper link is certified with Fluke DSX test equipment and every fibre link is tested with OTDR traces. You get the full test pack, labelling schedules and as-built drawings at handover.
Yes. Work is phased around operations, with nights, weekends and shutdown periods used where needed, and each phase proven before moving to the next.
Yes. We regularly deliver the data and communications package for M&E and principal contractors, to their programme and paperwork. See our trade and subcontract page.
Our team holds City & Guilds, CSCS, IPAF, PASMA and ECS cards, and the company is CHAS-accredited. Engineers are DBS checked.
